8 Scriptures To Keep You Focused On Your Mission | Casey Helmick

As you read the book of Matthew, you begin to realize that it is full of commands directly from Jesus Christ. These are things that Jesus calls us to do more than anything else.

In my world as a husband, father, and ministry leader I spend a large chunk of my day focused on providing for my family. But is this what Jesus called us to spend our time focused on? These things are important but the ultimate focus should be on what is found in God's Word, including these 8 we find in the book of Matthew:

Here are 8 Scriptures to keep you focused on Jesus' calling for your life:

  1. Follow Jesus
And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)

  2. Honor God's Law
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. (Matthew 5:17)

  3. Keep Your Word
Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil. (Matthew 5:37)

  4. Love Your Enemies
But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? (Matthew 5:44-46)

  5. Do Unto Others
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)

  6. Ask In Faith
And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” (Matthew 21:21-22)

  7. Love Your Neighbor
And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:39-40)

  8. Make Disciples
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
