Surrender: Are You Willing?

By Aaron Joseph Hall

The word surrender has been on my mind and heart a lot lately. The Lord has reminded me what I need to give up and that surrender isn’t burdensome. It’s actually a blessing! When we let go, and truly surrender, we position ourselves under Jesus’ lordship. And there’s no better place to be than in His will, under His authority, doing what He’s called you to do.

Surrendering is hard but worth it.

Surrender is beautiful because we give Jesus our junk in exchange for everything He has for us.

Surrendering is not optional. It’s needed.

It’s necessary for any Christian to have a deep walk with the Lord.

Are you willing to surrender everything to the Lord?

Jesus surrendered to the Father’s will when He went to the cross. Jesus tells us in Matthew 16:24, “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Jesus is the ultimate picture of what surrender looks like.

We all have things we need to surrender. My challenge today is to read over the list below and ask the Lord, is this something I need to surrender to you today? And then obey whatever the Lord tells you.

The Lord honors obedience! One of my favorite things to tell people is this: When was the last time you have heard the Lord speak to you? Now, did you do what He asked of you then? If not, go do it. Obedience opens doors, but more importantly, it blesses the heart of God.

We can’t truly surrender without obedience because true surrender won’t happen unless we are obedient to God!

What do you need to surrender today?

  1. Relationships

  2. Your job/career

  3. Your phone

  4. Social Media

  5. Music

  6. Food

  7. Time management

  8. Your attitude

  9. Your language

  10. Your selfishness

  11. Your hobby or hobbies

  12. Your computer

Maybe what you need to surrender isn’t mentioned in the list above. Whatever it is, write it down in your journal and take it to the Lord. Lately, the Lord has been showing me the freedom we can find when we truly surrender everything to Him—and I mean everything! Even those “things” we so desperately want to cling to.

So, the question for today is: Will you surrender whatever the Lord is asking of you?
