God's Thoughts on Money
Scripture has over 800 verses on money. Here are just a few of God's thoughts on money - I wish I had space to list so many more. Let's keep our hearts aligned with His. It would be good, if you haven't done so recently, to read through the Proverbs in the coming days and allow God to speak to your heart during these tough economic times.
PROVERBS 23:4-5 "Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven."
PROVERBS 21:20 "In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has."
PROVERBS 21:5 "The plan of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty."
PROVERBS 28:20 "A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished."
PROVERBS 13:11 "Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow."
PROVERBS 11:1 "A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight."
II THESSALONIANS 3:10 "For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat."
2. Do not set your heart on wealth. Guard your heart from "serving" money.
MATTHEW 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
MATTHEW 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
1 Timothy 6:17-19 "As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be proud and arrogant and contemptuous of others, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches, but on God, Who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for [our] enjoyment. [Charge them] to do good, to be rich in good works, to be liberal and generous of heart, ready to share [with others] in this way laying up for themselves [the riches that endure forever as] a good foundation for the future, so that they may grasp that which is life indeed."
3. Give to those in need. Bring your tithes and offerings to God's House.
I TIMOTHY 5:8 "But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."
Proverbs 19:17 "He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and that which he has given He will repay to him."
DEUTERONOMY 26:12 "When you have finished paying all the tithe of your increase ... (many more verses could be added on tithing, but we'll save this for a future blog).
4. Be careful in loaning money to others. Diligently save your wealth for your children's children.
PROVERBS 17:18 "It's stupid to guarantee someone else's loan." (See also Prov 11:15, Psalm 109:11, Prov. 22:26-27)
PROVERBS 13:22 "A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous."
PROVERBS 10:22 "The blessings of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it."
