What We Can Learn from a Reality Star Marriage
There's no need to go into the couples that have split up in our (Generation Y) short lifetime, right in front of us on the screen. Reality star marriages seem to be doomed to failure. No one likes being under the microscope, and too much of any good thing can turn out to be a bad thing.
I have believed for years that this principle applies directly into our relationship with God. Let me give you a fresh example. Michelle and I have been in 12 church services in a little over a week. This not including the fact that my 9-5 job is Church related and ministry focused. For one thing, it's been an exhausting past few weeks, but we have seriously enjoyed each an every event we have been a part of in recent days.
One thing is sure though, no matter how much stamina I have, too much church and conference without enough one-on-one time with the Lord, can potentially kill the soul.
It's the same principle as the reality star marriage. You do everything in front of others. Your romance is based with others always watching and around. If Michelle and I only went on group dates and didn't get enough one-on-one time, we too would start to feel it. Intimacy is best kindled in secret.
There is something about one-on-one time with the Lord that fosters spiritual growth that only one-on-one time can. It reminds us of our first love. It revitalizes our passion. It confirms the authenticity of our claims in public. It restores our soul.
