The Skilled Man Will Serve Before Kings

Proverbs 22:29 states, "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men."

This verse is on the placard sitting on my dad's desk for the past few years. My mom made him this placard to remind him to excel in his work. Not that my dad needed any reminding - he is a very hard worker.

In fact, my dad has worked hard all his life, raising four boys and putting himself through college while working a 60 hour a week job as a computer engineer and being actively involved in our church.

In the past 10 years, my dad started a side business doing sound installations and event production for a company he started called Reach Communications. I helped come up with the name, knowing back then my calling to be an evangelist and having a desire for his new company to reach people with the Gospel through the modern-day miracle of sound amplification.

He now works on this business full time and can't keep up with the work! My dad and my older brother Dan co-own and run this business together.  Dan does frequent traveling with major Christian artists and others.

Together they do installations in local churches and schools and have produced events at just about every large venue in the Twin Cities region.  They are as good of a price as you can get, and skillfully excel at what they do.  It's really inspiring for me to watch.

Recently, I got a call from my dad, which doesn't happen too often out of the blue.  He shared with me that in the past week they had gotten an urgent bid from (are you ready for this?) the White House, and in a matter of days had been accepted as one of the contractors to help put on their event.

My dad shared with me his experience of putting the curtain on the President's bullet proof shield that surrounds him while he speaks, and of sitting a few rows from where he spoke during the rally.

Unbelievable to see this little verse lived out in real time in my dad's life!
