Dreams are Overrated
Dream no small dreams, for they have no power to stir the hearts of men. -Goethe
While there is some truth in this, Proverbs 19:21 says, "many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails." Any time we are hoping, dreaming and aiming for certain goals in life, there will be a possibility that these dreams will not come true. Or worse, that we will grow impatient in our pursuit of our dreams and give up too early.
The writer of Proverbs shares this sentiment: "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life." (Proverbs 13:12). We've all experienced the heartsickness of failed goals, unreachable dreams and discouraging days.
We MUST remember in the pursuit of goals and dreams in this life that we have something greater than dreams - we can have confidence in something far beyond the wildest human dreams or comprehension possible because of the finished work of Christ on the cross!
Because Christ went to the cross for us - something greater than our wildest dreams is already DONE for us!
Because Christ has paved the way and prepared eternity in heaven for us - something greater than our wildest dreams is already WAITING for us!
All the human dreams we can dream up are way overrated when we entrust our past, present and future to Christ! In Christ, we can truly say we are "living the dream!"
