Theo-who?
A good friend from college, David Santisteven, posted on his twitter recently: "If your study of theology doesn't lead you to love Jesus Christ more, you're missing the main purpose of theology.”
Yes!
The problem with sideline theologians who are not practicing and persevering in what they teach is that they are missing the point of all theological pursuits.
Bottom line: When it comes to theology, true God-rooted theology should actually cause us to love Jesus more passionately, serve Jesus and His Body (the Church) more humbly and preach more urgently.
Let's be honest - the best theologian to walk the earth was God Himself: Jesus ... walked among us and taught and showed us what the Father really looks like. Those who walked with Him were inspired by the Holy Spirit and left us God's Word.
We can't miss this! Otherwise, we have the theology of the pharisees - who pored over the Scriptures but missed the main point: Jesus!
"You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these very Scriptures testify about Me." -John 5:39
"Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father." -John 5:23
