His Delight Is Not in Your Strength | Chelsea Kay Hurst

You might’ve read the title and thought, “Huh? Doesn’t God want me to be strong and confident?” The answer is yes, but that’s not the point. The Lord’s delight is not in our strength, but in our weakness.

You may be a bit confused about what this means, but I’m here to walk you through it. Let’s start by taking a look at a verse that’s in the Word of God itself!

2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

When we acknowledge the things that make us weak, it gives God the power to work through those weaknesses. Boasting in our strengths is one thing, but being able to boast about our weaknesses is a whole different ballpark.

God wants us to lean on him, admitting our flaws, mistakes, sins… These are the things that make us human, no matter how strongly we strive to be like Him. We know that we will never be as perfect as Jesus, but triumphing through these weaknesses and surrendering to the Lord is one step closer.

Isaiah 40:29 says, “He gives strength to the weary and increases power of the weak.”

As humans, our first instinct is to never admit defeat. We think admitting and asking for help is a sign of weakness, and this couldn’t be further from the truth! God gives strength to those who need it, and power to those who lean on him.

God mentions our weakness multiple times throughout the Bible. He also mentions taking pride in our weaknesses several times, so we should realize when he’s trying to tell us something!

Isn’t it cool to think that our weaknesses are a channel for God to rest his power on us? A lot of people are ashamed of the things that make them weak, but God uses these things for our good! He is constantly using us for the good of his kingdom, and truly remembering this fact will give you the confidence and strength to go forth into the world around you.

Lastly, always remember Exodus 15:2. It says, “The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father is God, and I will exalt him.” We don’t have to be strong and put together all the time. God is our provider and he gives us the strength we need! He picks us up when we fall and gives us the power to keep going. Delight in the fact that he will always be steadfast, today, tomorrow, and always!

Surrender your weaknesses to God, ask him for help, and let him work through your life. Holding on to pride and overconfidence will only hurt you in the long run. His plan is always better than our own!
