If All Scripture is God-Breathed Does that Really Mean the Bible is True?

By Aaron Joseph Hall

If all Scripture is God-breathed does that really mean the Bible is true? That’s a valid question–one that has been asked many times. The validity of Scripture is a game-changer. The Bible isn’t true simply because I say it is or because your pastor does or anyone else. As a follower of Jesus, I can take God at His Word because He has proven Himself, again and again, to be alive, active, and…well, God!

I know it may be hard to grasp but the Bible is not like any other book you’ll ever read. It’s the one book you can read anywhere in the world and still have the Author Himself present with you. You can read one Scripture today and the Lord will speak to your current situation and a year from now, in a different circumstance, that same verse can give you hope and encouragement. How? Well, that’s the power of God’s Word…it’s truly a source of hope and encouragement, but most of all it’s God revealing Himself to humanity. It’s also God's love letter to you!

I want to share with you three reasons why the Bible is true.

Note: An infinite number of books could be written on why the Bible is true. I’m only sharing three reasons. It’s my prayer that these three reasons encourage you today and help you see the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God!

Reason #1 - You can take God at His Word

God takes His Word seriously. Isaiah 55:11 says, “so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it” (ESV).

God will do what He says. He will not go against His Word. Jesus spoke often about having to die and then, on the third day rise again. And guess what? That’s exactly what He did! He also said He will come back one day. He was and is who He said He was so we can hold on to the truth and promise of His second coming. God would not say it if it were not true!

Reason #2 - There aren’t any contradictions

God’s Word is infallible – meaning it is without error. There are NO contradictions in Scripture! People will try and point out “apparent” contradictions that, when studied, are not contradictions at all. We can have hope in knowing that God’s Word is 100% true. It’s God speaking to us. Do you want to hear God speak today? Get in the Word!

This is one of those reasons a book (or more) could be written about the truth of the Bible. At the end of the day, by faith we must believe God’s Word is without error and inspired!

ArkEncounter.com writes, “The Bible is unique among all the books in the world, and its message is unified throughout all 66 books. It was written by over 40 different writers, including shepherds, kings, priests, scholars, fishermen, and prophets, over a span of 1,500 years. However, the Bible remains unified in its message even though it displays a wide variety of genres and its authors wrote for a variety of purposes and exhibited a broad range of emotions.”

Reason #3 - There is evidence that validates what the Bible says

There has been evidence discovered outside of the Bible that proves the Bible is true. For example, LiveScience.com writes, “A 1,600-year-old mosaic depicts two men, one in red and one in blue, balancing a cluster of grapes on a pole between them. This painstaking piece of art was found in northern Israel in the ancient Jewish village of Huqoq. Archaeologists who announced the find in July said that it depicts a scene from the Book of Numbers, the fourth book of the Hebrew Bible. In Numbers 13:17-13:23, two spies sent to the land of Canaan by Moses cut a branch of grapes to carry home.”

A quick search on Google and you’ll find all kinds of evidence that has been unearthed that mentions, points back to, and talks about Biblical events, such as the spies mentioned above. For me, every new discovery is just another shot of encouragement and hope, because since the Bible is true that means it's true that Jesus will come back again and creation will be restored to its original design!

I hope these three reasons alone help you see how if all Scripture is God-breathed then that really does mean the Bible is true! Of course, there are more reasons than these but these three have encouraged me in holding on to the truth of the inspired Word of God!
