Keeping Christ at the Center of Your Home | Chelsea Crockett
Being a newly married woman, I now have a home that’s solely my own. It is a new foundation for my husband and I that will eventually hold a family, host our friends, experience so many “firsts,” and so much more!
Although we plan to move throughout our life together, each house will be our home, where we get to experience life and make it our own! I’ve always understood the importance of keeping Christ at the center of our home, but I didn’t realize how intentional you have to be when you’re actually the head of the household.
There are several verses throughout the Bible that stress the importance of building a home centered around Christ.
Matthew 7:25 says, “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Regardless of arguments, disappointments, or negativity that you experience inside your home, if Christ is your foundation, it will not be shaken. As perfect as you want your life to be, there will always be these three things that I mentioned above, but what makes the world of a difference is who your #1 priority is when life gets hard.
Proverbs 24:3-4 says, “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”
Think about how you can grow wisdom, understanding, and knowledge inside your home. I know for me and Nick, we like to set aside time to be completely in the word with no distractions. Reading the Bible gives us the knowledge of how we should live our lives as Christ followers and it continues to amaze us every day.
Through listening to sermons, talking to God, reading devotionals, etc., we get the opportunity to gain this godly wisdom and understanding that God offers to us. It makes such a huge difference when our mindsets, actions, and words are Christ-like and mirrored after the Lord.
I remember listening to a podcast a few months ago that talked about what people often put at the center of their home. For some people, it may be money and finances. For others, it may be the pursuit of happiness regardless of what that may mean for them. And for some, the sole center of their home may be their careers.
Regardless of what the world around you is doing, I encourage you to make a list of ways you can keep Christ at the center of your home. If you need a starting point, begin by going to church every Sunday. Pray before each meal and as a family before you go to bed. These small changes welcome God into your home and allow him to lead each and every one of you throughout your life. His presence is powerful, comforting, and will fill your home with love, grace, and so much more!
