Roaring Twenties Fast
2023

“Calling 1 million young people to
Fast and Pray in the Roaring Twenties.”

Today, prominent Christian leaders, ministries, and young influencers throughout the United States are urging and supporting a call for one million people, especially young people, to fast and pray at the beginning of 2023.

This annual fast began in 2020 and will continue throughout the “Roaring Twenties”.

Shane Idleman, pastor of Westside Christian Fellowship in California states, “When God moves, prayer and fasting have often been the catalyst.” With economic uncertainty, political polarization, and fear abounding from coast to coast there has never been a greater need for God to move.

The theme of the 2023 fast is “Worthy of the Pursuit”. The Bible tells us, “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.” (Psalm 9:10) Fasting and prayer are the great invitations to know and love Jesus like never before. God invites us to seek Him, and He is worthy of the pursuit. When we seek God, we know He always does great things.

Throughout 2023, digital ministers on every social media platform will be echoing the idea that Jesus Christ is worthy of the pursuit.  “As we stand before a generation with an appetite for the presence of God, may we be mindful of this: fasting is what  prepares our spirit for the fresh filing from God that we need.” -Jon Groves

Many churches, ministries and young leaders are encouraging the 2023 fast. You can watch fasting devotionals daily in January on the Pray.com app.

“The Roaring Twenties Fast is not about any one church, leader, organization or denomination but rather a collective of believers young and old who sense that God will move mightily in the Roaring Twenties.” -Dr. Malachi O’Brien

How should I fast?

Join us in fasting for 21 days in January — January 1st-21st, 2023, however God leads you to fast. We typically start on the first Sunday in January.

Important: Young people be sure to talk with your parents, and your family’s doctor about how to safely fast.

Please join us in fasting however God leads you during this time.

The typical Biblical fast is going without food for a period of time, but there are other types of fasts you may choose from:

  • A typical Biblical fast is going without food for a single meal, one day or a longer period of time.

  • A “Daniel Fast” is eating only fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for a period of time.

  • A “Juice Fast” is only doing juices or liquids for a period of time.

  • An entertainment fast is going without entertainment for a period of time.

  • A social media fast is going without social media for a period of time.

You may choose to do a typical Biblical Fast going without food for 1 day, and then another type of fast for the remainder of the 21 days.

You could also Fast by skipping one meal per day for a period of days, and spend that extra time seeking God in prayer.

The primary objective is to deny ourselves, and make space and time in our lives to seek God in prayer and the reading of His Word for a greater move of God in our lives, and our world. Physical hunger often ignites a great spiritual hunger in our lives.
