Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer Project to ‘Make Hope Visible’

By Alex Murashko

The Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer, which is a massive landmark planned for construction in the center of the UK, is designed to be a symbol of hope for future generations, said its founder and visionary, Richard Gamble, while visiting the US recently.

Plans for the wall include a giant Mobius strip (infinity wall) made out of a million bricks and that arcs into the sky 160 feet. Each tiny brick, the size of a credit card, will hold a digital story of answered prayer, unlocked by positioning one’s phone next to the bricks.

One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts. (Psalm 145:4)

“We want to create this giant database of stories and testimonies of things that God has done so that when people go online and in person they can discover the hope we have in Jesus Christ,” Gamble told Think Eternity at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in May. “For us this is a way to make hope visible to the nations.”

Gamble said the project, which is on track for completion in 2026, is one that he has been working on for 19 years.

Prior to his vision of the monument, he said that he felt that God told him to carry a cross around the county he lived in.

“The idea was just to get people to think about Jesus during Easter. For them to know that [Easter] is about Jesus,” Gamble said. “I’m walking around, and I am praying, ‘God, what do you want me to do next?’ And then, this image just flashed through my head. It was of a wall made of a million bricks. I really didn’t know what it looked like and it’s difficult to describe.

“I got home and my wife looked at me and said, ‘You’ve got that twinkling in your eye. What’s going on?’ I said, ‘I think we are going to build a national landmark.’”

Gamble shared that when he became a Christian he discovered a world he never knew about. He said that he thought to himself: “Wow! Why didn’t I know anything about this? Why was I not taught at school that Jesus is still alive and answering prayer?”

He said that through this project he wanted to communicate to everyone that Jesus is still alive.

“He is still listening to us when we pray. He’s still answering.’ That’s part of this vision. It’s not just the physical [aspect of the Eternal Wall] in the UK, but we want to build a global iconic landmark.”

Gamble said that the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer will be highly visible at its location near the Birmingham airport. It will be close to where two major highway arteries come together, and a major railway is currently under construction close by as well. Nearly 800,000 people are projected to pass by the epic monument during their daily travels.

Answers to prayers may not always have an initial feel-good outcome, and those prayer stories are also welcome as well, he said. “It’s good that we have that range. Sometimes, God doesn’t answer prayers the way that we would like. Sometimes the answer is ‘no.’ The story that we want to communicate is that Jesus is there to help you in those times as well. Prayer for me is not that we ask, and we get. Prayer for me is about going on a journey.

“I believe God is more interested in the journey we go on with Him and the relationship we deepen with Him than the actual answer [to the prayer] itself.”

Gamble said that his hope and prayer is that many years from now the stories of answered prayer will still be encouraging people.

“It’s a great way for Christians to see how we can support the generations to come because it’s a crazy world right now,” he said. “I can’t tell you what it’s going to look like in 40 years time. But what I can tell you is that there’s going to be an absolutely gigantic national monument dedicated to Jesus' answered prayer.

“When we remember what God has done we are affectively recalibrating our minds to remember who He is because it’s really easy, especially when you get hammered with the things of life and all the storms of life, to forget who He is.

“It’s an opportunity for this generation to share with the generations to come.”
