These are the Days of Lot

By Matthew Maher

These are certainly the days of the Lot we find in the Bible, but where are the ‘Lots’ of these days?

“Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.” (Luke 17:28,29)

“…for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds,” (2 Peter 2:8)

In other words, regardless of what one may think of Lot, this later verse above tells us his righteous soul was tormented by the unrighteousness around him. His soul was in an upheaval because of evil.

Likewise, as believers who are in right standing with God, we ought to be standing right for God. And when I say right, I mean righteous. So like God did for Lot, He is absolutely able to deliver us, and He will, but until then, as the Church we need to be the salt of the earth: Preserving godliness in an ungodly land.

Question: How Do We Do This?

Well, these are the days where up is down and down is up. These are the days where wrong is right and right is wrong. These are the days where a man can be a woman and a woman can be a man. These are the days where abortion is health care and when you care to preserve life, you are labeled an oppressor.

So, if that’s the world’s standardless standard, this is how one stands for God’s standard. Stand up when up is up and do not bow down when they say up is down. Do what’s right even when right is labeled wrong. And do not affirm wrong regardless of the majority saying it’s right. Be a man or woman strong in the Lord, so that when you’re present, the world cannot blur the lines of these divine designs.

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Alright, now I know this is a lot, but remember, you are living in the days of Lot. As prophesied by Jesus, these are the times where, as immorality is on the rise, people don’t even bat an eye.  “They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built,” (Luke 17:28) while being tolerant of what is deviant. A culture that not only tolerates blatant sin but celebrates it and cancels you if you don’t participate in it, is ripe for ruin.

And yet, we the people who are governed by the Gospel, not only do not conform to the lies of Babel, but we bring forth the truth of revival. Because as the Church, we are called to be the salt of the earth. And salt preserves. Therefore, while we are living in the days of Lot and up against a lot, let us delay the decay of the day by simply standing in the way until the day the Lord takes us out of the way.

“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.” (2 Thessalonians 2:7)
